According to the 2026 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study, 84% of homeowners upgrade their cabinets when completing kitchen renovations, and 58% add or update an existing island. Out of these, many are opting for wood tones over other shades..
Wood tones have taken the top spot choice for cabinet shades, with 29% of renovating homeowners choosing wood over the longstanding white cabinet norm, up 6% from the previous year. Among wood tones, medium leads (15%), followed by light (11%) and dark (3%).
Renovating homeowners are also choosing wood for a contrasting countertop color. Out of all renovating homeowners who chose an island countertop color that’s different from the main cabinet color, 39% chose wood for their project. White and brown follow at 19% and 9%, respectively. Notably, black dropped from 18% in the previous year to 8% this year.
Wood tones remain the favorite for flooring choices, chosen by nearly half of renovating homeowners (49%), with 21% choosing light wood, 26% selecting medium tones and 2% opting for a dark wood floor.
