Tile trends are moving away from the cool gray and white that have dominated the tile scene and shifting towards natural colors reflecting earth tones and bold statement colors. Tile shape trends are also changing, with more homeowners choosing options that look handmade and are dimensional and mix-and-match.
According to the 2026 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study, 72% of renovating homeowners choose tile for a new or upgraded backsplash. Among tile types, ceramic leads the way, with 49% of homeowners choosing this material, followed by 23% choosing porcelain. Ceramic or porcelain tile are also the preferred flooring material, up 2% year over year in 2026, matching hardwood’s popularity.
