This year, Purdy is celebrating 100 years of crafting high-quality painting tools trusted by pros and DIYers alike. To mark a century in business, the company is taking a look back at its storied history, sharing stories from pros and DIYers and launching three new products and launching three new products: the Purdy Altitude™ Roller Cover, the Purdy POLE+ Extension Pole and the Purdy Pro-Extra® High-Capacity Brush.
“For a century, Purdy has remained committed to developing best-in-class tools to make painting easier, faster and more precise for professionals,” says Randi Boss, vice president of marketing for Purdy. “We work closely with pros to understand their unique challenges and develop new innovative products to enhance their craft.”
Purdy founder S. Desmond Purdy made his first paintbrush by hand in a garage in Portland, Oregon, in 1925. World War II created a paintbrush shortage that led to the invention of the paint roller, thanks to the basement of Sherwin-Williams employee Richard Adams. The roller invention coincided with Purdy’s growth as a national brand sold coast-to-coast. In 2008, Purdy introduced prep-and-finish tools to its lineup of products and in 2025 and beyond, it continues to develop painting tools for pros and DIYers.
“Reaching this 100-year milestone is a testament to the trust and loyalty of the professional painters who have made Purdy their go-to brand for generations,” Boss says. “As we look to the future, we remain focused on innovation and our unwavering commitment to quality.”
