Finding Value: Consumers Lean on Product Features in Light of Rising Paint Costs

Recent price hikes have been affecting all aspects of retail, causing strain for both retailers and consumers. According to the JD Power 2026 U.S. Paint Satisfaction Study, consumers have seen price increases across all paint segments, including interior and exterior paint and exterior stain.

Exterior paint has experienced the largest increase so far this year, up $3.22 per gallon. While prices have skyrocketed, consumer satisfaction with value for price paid for exterior paint was up 14 points (on a 1,000-point scale) to 647, as consumers prioritize product performance, features and trusted customer reviews when choosing a paint brand.
