As part of its Colorful Communities® program, PPG recently completed another project, a community center in Winti Wai, Suriname. The project brought together more than 20 PPG employees who volunteered with the local Stiwewa Association.
Along with volunteers, PPG contributed $50,000 for the construction of the facility and provided over 110 gallons of PPG paint.
“With this building, we can provide maximum social support and help residents in a more targeted way,” says Robbie Berghout, Stiwewa Association chairman. “There is finally a place for activities that is easily accessible for all residents. We will pay special attention to the development of young people in the neighborhood by providing information, education and labor development, tackling social problems and offering recreation and fun.”
The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world such as Suriname, where the company has architectural coatings production and research and development. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 330 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 6.7 million people in 42 countries.
“It’s a great honor to be involved in such a worthwhile project,” says Feeanine Hewitt-Abrahams, PPG marketing officer, Suriname. “The project was certainly not easy, with permitting delays and COVID-19 lockdowns that delayed construction. But it has been worth all the effort, and we look forward to seeing the benefits that this facility can bring to the residents of Winti Wai.”
