Paint Retailer Leans Into Throwback Trends

With a constant ear to what her customers want, owner of Blue Mist Paint & Flooring Ashley Peterson stays on top of color and design trends and uses those to promote her store’s products and offerings. Recently, she connected to the new Lenox Spice Village craze, sharing the paint colors she thinks pair best with the collection.

Lenox first released the Spice Village in 1989, which was a monthly subscription series where subscribers first received the rack and then each month, received a 3-inch porcelain house for storing spices. Each of the 24 spice houses were decorated in pastel hues and featured botanical accents.

“In this height of ‘cottagecore,’ ‘grandmacore’ and ‘grandmillenial’ design, Lenox has re-released these coveted spice jars that people are paying thousands for on the internet,” Peterson says. “I thought pairing paint colors with these spice villages would be fun. I even have friends in my tile industry talking about tile possibly being manufactured to go with this collection.”

Peterson posted on the store’s social media channels and shared six Dunn-Edwards paint colors that would pair perfectly with the collection: Cottage White, French White, Dogwood, Country Air, Blue Spruce and Opaline.

“I thought this was a great way to connect with customers, and it was enjoyable to come up with the coordinating colors. All the colors are livable and would work in any space,” Peterson says. “I get to happily sit back and admire my mother-in-law’s collection I rescued and have in my own house!”
