Covering a whole room—walls, ceiling and trim—in one paint color may sound startling at first, but this trend, known as “color drenching,” has gained popularity recently. According to Houzz Inc., searches for the term “color drenching” on Houzz were up 325% in the first quarter of 2025. 

Paint & Decorating Retailer recommends these five paint colors that will tastefully color drench a room without overwhelming a space.

Greens

Creating a cozy and nature-inspired retreat, a green-drenched space brings the outside in.

Four Leaf Clover from Dunn-Edwards is a soft, leaf green shade that mimics the tones of the lucky plant. This shade provides a visually appealing yet neutral backdrop for eye-catching furniture or artwork.

Benjamin Moore’s Webster Green is a dark green with a crisp finish. Color drenching doesn’t have to mean covering every inch of a room—painting a wall and door this shade will contrast well with a lighter white or beige ceiling color.

Black

For a dramatic feel, drenching a room in Sherwin-Williams’ Black Magic will make a statement in any space. The bold black with warm tones draws a striking, yet comforting, feel.

Neutrals

For a safer approach, a neutral shade like Farrow & Ball’s Scallop provides a clean canvas for any room. Scallop is a soft salmon shade that pairs will with mid-toned primers and undercoats.

Crisp Muslin from Dunn-Edwards is a warm grey-beige that offers a timeless feel to a space, acting as an elegant backdrop when color-drenched in a room.
